I am a new member and am based in India.
I am a proffessional model maker as well as a trader in model trains and related items.

I have come across an enquiry to automate an entire layout from a friend-cum-customer who is building a huge outdoor layout in O scale.

I am new to this automatoin stuff though I am an electronics engineer by education.

Kindly send me all of your suggestions and comments at your earliest possible convinience to help me in this regard.

There is reasonably a good budget allocated for this project but I need all the information on required hardware and software at the earliest.

before you know what kind of hardware you need, it's better to make a good layout on paper.
After that it's more easy to see what kind and howmuch hardware modules you need.
When the Catrain software is programmed for it you can make a simulation run on your PC.
If everything is more a less OK you can start to build your real layout.
And then the fun starts to syngronise the hole system.
